Delhi Rain Record: The month of February usually receives 18 millimeters of rain, but this time it has received 28.7 millimeters of rainfall, which is 85% more than normal.
Highest Rain in February After 8 Years in Delhi:
As February comes to an end, the India Meteorological Department has predicted that the weather would be cloudy but there are fewer chances of rain. It can be said that the last rain of this month have fallen on February 25 and 26.
In total, this month, 28.7 mm of rain was recorded in Delhi. The capital city has not seen this much rain since 2014. So it can be said that Delhi has received the highest record rainfall in the last eight years.
In 2014, Delhi received a total rainfall of 48.8 mm in February. The average rainfall in Delhi during this month is usually 18 mm. However, this year’s 28.7 mm rainfall is 85 percent more than normal.
The year saw a more than normal rainfall in January as well. The average rainfall received in January in Delhi is 21.7 mm, however, this year it was 88.2 mm
In 2015, there was 1.8 mm of rain in February, 1.3 mm in 2016, 0 in 2017, 0 in 2018, 23.9 in 2019, 1.8 in 2020, and 2.6 mm in the month of February 2021.
To add to that, the month of March is also expected to start with rain. According to the Met department, there is a possibility of light rain on March 2.
Hailstorms In Delhi
On the other hand, many parts of Delhi received rain as well as hail on Friday night. According to weather scientists, the hailstorm was not unusual in this season and hail falls twice between January and May every year. Earlier, Delhi had received a hailstorm on January 6, 2021, and March 14, 2020. In 2019, there was a hailstorm in Delhi-NCR on February 7.
In 2013, on January 17 and March 29, there were hailstorms twice. In the month of March to May, generally large size hail of 5 to 10 mm falls, while in January and February small hail of 1 to 4 mm falls.
