Arvind Kejriwal Writes To Amit Shah Over Increasing Crime Rate, Bomb Threats In Delhi

Kejriwal wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressing concern over the worsening law and order situation in Delhi, citing bomb threats, high crime rates against women among others.

Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal wrote a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday over the deteriorating situation of law and order in the national capital. He also sought a time to meet the Union minister over the issue.

"The law and order situation of Delhi is under the control of the Central Government. Despite this, Delhi is now being known as the capital of crime," said the Aam Aadmi Party chief in the letter.

He further said that Delhi stands at number 1 in the list of 19 metro cities where crimes against women are reported. "Extortion gangs are active in Delhi and are openly running extortion business," he added.

Kejriwal also highlighted the issue of repeated bomb threats in the city and said there has been an increase of 350 per cent in crimes related to drugs.

"I am worried about the safety of people across Delhi. There is a need to take effective steps in this direction," he said.

The development comes after a school in Delhi received a bomb threat on Saturday, the third such instance of threat emails being sent to schools in the national capital this week.

On Friday, about 30 schools received bomb threats over email, prompting a multi-agency search of their premises. Earlier in the week, around 44 schools received similar emails on Monday.

The mails were declared as hoaxes by the police after nothing suspicious was found during searches.

Similar bomb threat emails had been sent to several airlines as well this year triggering panic among passengers and the crew.

In October, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu addressed the issue and said most of the calls had been "made by pranksters and minors" ruling out any conspiracy.
