Delhi Elections: After Shoaib Iqbal, 2 More Congress Leaders To Join AAP Today, Claim Sources

Last week, five-time MLA from Matia Mahal, Shoaib Iqbal had joined the Aam Aadmi Party in the presence of its national convenor Arvind Kejriwal.

New Delhi: In another major setback to the Congress ahead of the Delhi Assembly polls, two of its leaders will be joining the Aam Aadmi Party camp on Monday, sources have said. Vinay Mishra, son of former Congress Parliamentarian Mahabal Mishra and former Badarpur MLA Ram Singh Netaji, will be formally inducted into the ruling party, weeks ahead of the scheduled polls, the sources have claimed. Last week, five-time MLA from Matia Mahal, Shoaib Iqbal had joined the Aam Aadmi Party in the presence of its national convenor Arvind Kejriwal. Iqbal joined the AAP along with Congress's MCD Councillors Aley Mohammed Iqbal and Sultana Abad. Also watch: Deputy Speaker of the Delhi Assembly (2003 and 2008), Iqbal had been an MLA in the 1993, 1998, 2003, 2008 and 2013 assemblies. In 2015 Assembly elections, he was defeated by Aasim Ahmed Khan of the AAP. He had been with various political parties including Janata Dal and the Congress. Delhi will be witnessing a three-sided electoral battle between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party, BJP and the Congress. The election will be held on February 8, and counting of votes will be done of February 11. As per ABP News’ opinion polls, ‘Aam Aadmi Party’ is likely to win 59 seats in the 70-seat assembly, while the BJP is likely to slump at 8 seats. The Congress party is likely to save some face this time with three seats, as against its previous zero.
