Covid 19: Delhi To Conduct Random Tests, Focus On ‘5ts’ To Contain Spread

Delhi has earmarked around 400 beds in private hospitals and plans to take over private hospitals if the cases rise up to 30,000

New Delhi, April 7: In an attempt to curb the rising number of coronavirus cases in the capital, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday unveiled a strategy focused on five 'Ts' to control the spread of Covid 19. The capital will be conduction nearly 1 lakh random tests to check people for the deadly virus. Addressing a press conference through the video link, Kejriwal said, "It includes five Ts: testing, tracing people who came in contact with a patient, treatment, team-work, and tracking and monitoring.” "World over the experience has been that countries which aggressively tested people contained the disease better; people who came in came contact with a suspected patient have to be traced,” he added. "The government has earmarked around 400 beds in private hospitals for Covid-19 patients. We have prepared a detail plan to take over private hospitals if the number of cases rises up to 30,000 in Delhi," the minister said. "One lakh random rapid COVID-19 tests will be conducted in hotspot areas. We will make arrangements in banquet halls and dharamsalas in the city to accommodate 10,000 COVID-19 patients if such a need arises," Kejriwal said, according to a news agency. At present, around 2,950 beds in city hospitals are reserved for patients and the government will take over 12,000 hotel rooms in case the number of Covid 19 cases continues to spike. So far, Maharashtra has reported the highest number of cases at 748, followed by Tamil Nadu at 621 and Delhi at 523. (With inputs from PTI)
