CDS Helicopter Crash: Tri-Service Inquiry Report On CDS Bipin Rawat's Chopper Crash To Be Submitted Soon

After the death of CDS General Rawat and his wife Madhulika Rawat along with 12 other armed forces personnel, there are many questions regarding the reason for the crash of IAF’s Mi-17V5.

New Delhi: The Court of Inquiry constituted for investigating the crash of CDS General Bipin Rawat is likely to turn in its report to the government soon. The defence ministry had ordered a tri-service inquiry to know the reason for the helicopter crash. The enquiry was headed by the Indian Air Force Training wing’s Commanding-in-Chief, Air Marshal Manavendra Singh.  

After the death of CDS General Rawat and his wife Madhulika Rawat along with 12 other armed forces personnel, there are many questions regarding the reason for the crash of IAF’s Mi-17V5. This is why the Court of Inquiry was set up to investigate the reason for the crash.

The investigative committee has recorded the statements of Army and IAF personnel. They have also talked to the locals who were present near the crash site and witnessed it. The mobile phone from which the video of the helicopter before the crash was recorded was also checked. 

FDR i.e. Flight Data Recorded commonly known as the Black box was also recovered and the information is included in the report.

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal V R Chaudhary is on a four-day visit (26-30 December) to South Korea currently. According to sources, in this scenario, the report will be submitted to the government after he comes back. 

CDS General Bipin Rawat was onboard Mi-17V5 on December 8 which took off from Sulur airbase and bound towards Defence Service Staff College in Wellington.

The helicopter crashed a few minutes before landing in the Coonoor region. It claimed the lives of General Rawat, his wife and 12 other army personnel who were on board.
