Business Blasters: When Delhi's 'Future Entrepreneurs' Came Up With Solution For Old Phone Junk

As per Business Blasters initiative, students of Classes 11 and 12 studying in Delhi government-run schools are receiving seed money of Rs 2,000 to support their innovative business ideas.

New Delhi: The Delhi government, led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, has launched an initiative, ‘Business Blasters’, which aims to train students to become "future entrepreneurs".

Under the new initiative, students from Classes 11 and 12 of Delhi government-run schools will get a seed money of Rs 2,000 to support their innovative business ideas.

The students of Lajpat Nagar’s Shaheed Hemu Kalani Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya shared their business plans before a jury, also comprising Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, in episode 2 of the start-up show, ‘Business Blasters’.

An eight-member team from this school, with an initial investment plan of Rs 8,000, came up with a brand, ‘Mobisite’, which deals in mobile accessories and refurbished mobile phones.

“Our revenue is Rs 32,000 and profit is Rs 24,000,” said team manager Sukh Sagar, who looks after mobile refurbishing.

Talking about his company’s initiative, he said: “We provide a warranty of six months and we charge extra in case the customer needs more warranty.”

Sagar said he presently takes the mobile phones from his friend circle for refurbishing.

“There are several people who want to get rid of their old phones as the device is no longer useful to them. We also have an Instagram page in the name of ‘Mobisite’ where we have several customers,” he added.

Another team member Amrita Mishra, who looks after promotion and advertisement, talking about the business idea said the students not having mobiles or laptops faced problems when online classes began during the lockdown.

“Several students did not have access to phones and laptops. Therefore, they missed their classes. So, we then thought the mobiles can be refurbished and brought into use which will be of help to many students,” she added.

Mishra also threw light on the company’s vision regarding scaling up sourcing of the phone.

“We have an app and website but not taken the domain yet. We will make modifications later where we will give a self-analysis option,” she said.

Another team member Sanya, who looks after content designing and accounting, said the company has a Rs 90,000 investment plan.

The team, which has so far sold 12 refurbished phones, plans to make more investments in future from the profits earned.

‘Mobisite’ received an investment of Rs 50,000 – Rs 25,000 each from Chaayos Founder Nitin Saluja and Seema Bansal Partner and Director, Boston Consulting Group, India.
