The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the dates for the upcoming Assembly Election for the five states. The Model Code of Conduct has become active since the announcement of dates by the ECI.
All provisions of the poll code will apply to the whole of Goa, Manipur, Punjab Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh with regard to all candidates, political parties and the governments of the five states, the Election Commission said on Saturday.
The Supreme Court has reserved it's hearing on the Prime Minister Modi Security Lapse case of Punjab for today. The CJI will be giving his decision regarding the case. The Supreme Court on Friday directed the state government to ensure that all records and materials pertaining to the Prime Minister’s movements be immediately secured in the custody of the Punjab and Haryana High Court registrar-general.
The Union Home Ministry has constituted a committee to enquire into the serious lapses in the security arrangements during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Punjab.
The three-member committee to be led by Sudhir Kumar Saxena, Secretary (Security), Cabinet Secretariat, will comprise Intelligence Bureau Joint Director Balbir Singh and SPG Inspector General S. Suresh.
In other news, a level-2 fire broke out in a wooden godown near Mustafa Bazar in the Byculla area of Mumbai. 8 fire brigades reached on the spot to control the fire; no casualties reported so far, said the Mumbai Fire Brigade.
