The 4 people who face BMC action had recently returned from Dubai on February 10 and they are accused of returning home without completing their seven-day quarantine period.
After they landed in Mumbai, BMC had accommodated them in a hotel in Andheri as they had to remain in a seven-day institutional quarantine according to the rules. When doctors arrived in the hotel to do the required checkups on the second day, the 4 passengers were found missing.
They have been identified as Sushil Sabnees, Jubeir Ghalte, Nikita Chander, and Swapan Chandradas.
Mumbai Police in a statement informed, "We have registered a case on BMC's complaint and booked four Dubai returnees under sections 188, 269 and 270 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code".
Earlier, BMC had sealed as many as 1,305 buildings because of new Covid-19 cases. "The Mumbai civic body sealed 1,305 buildings with 71,838 households after 2,749 cases were registered in the city," the BMC was quoted as saying.
The Mumbai civic body has been in action mode ever since a spike in fresh Covid cases was spotted. Recently, Mumbai mayor Kishori Pednekar had also stated that a lockdown may be imposed in the capital city seeing the situation.
Maharashtra relief and rehabilitation minister Vijay Wadettiwar has also talked about the possibility of the state government imposing a 12-hour night curfew, “between 5 pm and 5 am”, in areas with serious Coronavirus transmission.
A meeting will be held with Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in the coming week to finalise the decision.
