BJP Leader Booked For Provocative Slogans, Stone Pelting Near Mosque In Madhya Pradesh's Guna

BJP leader Omprakash Kushwah has been charged for leading a procession that allegedly shouted provocative slogans and pelted stones in front of a mosque.

A case has been booked against BJP leader and local Guna councillor Omprakash, alias Gabbar Kushwah, for allegedly leading a procession in front of a local mosque and for shouting provocative slogans and indulging in stone pelting. According to the Indian Express, quoting a police report, a report was filed by sub-inspector Mahesh Lakda of the Kotwali police station.

On April 12, the police were alerted around 4 pm on April 12 about the procession moving near the mosque, reports The Indian Express. Lakda, who was accompanied by SI Toran Singh and other officers, reached the site and found the procession was led by the BJP leader along with his associates Monu Ojha, Vishal Annotia, and Sanjay alias Bagga Raghuvanshi. On being asked about the permission for the procession and using a DJ, the group allegedly responded defiantly.

The participants allegedly proceeded to halt in front of the mosque despite efforts to stop the procession, playing the DJ at high volume and shouting provocative slogans targeting a specific community, including remarks such as, “You won’t understand like this; we’ll have to send you to Pakistan.”

The situation eventually escalated as the BJP leader and the 10-15 others allegedly refused to follow the instructions given by the police and resorted to sloganeering and began to throw stones, reports Indian Express, quoting police. The police further mentioned that additional forces were summoned to disperse the crowd.

On the basis of the complaint, a case was registered under Sections 191(2), 299, and 132 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, for offences including unlawful assembly, hurting religious sentiments, and obstructing public servants.

“I don’t understand why the administration is targeting me. They are booking me in criminal cases. My people are being booked. The investigation should look at the evidence before booking me in a criminal case,” Kushwaha said, as quoted by The Indian Express.
