Bihar: RJD leader Indal Paswan shot dead in Nalanda; angry locals set accused's house on fire

Outraged villagers took to streets after the incident and vandalised the accused's house and later set it on fire.

New Delhi: Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Indal Paswan was shot dead in Nalanda on Tuesday, in third instance of shootout in the state within 24 hours time, which has once again raised questions on the state police’s management and administration. The killing of the local RJD leader took place in Deepnagar area on the night of January 1, after he entered an altercation with some locals. Paswan was returning home after a funeral meet when some youths of the village fired bullets at him leading to his instant death. The attack was reportedly motivated by the previous altercation of Paswan with some of the villagers. The incident took place at a crowded residential area, but the accused managed to flee the spot soon after perpetrating the crime. Outraged villagers took to streets after the incident and vandalised the accused's house and later set the house on fire. Police have recovered Paswan’s bike from the site of the murder and are monitoring the situation in the village. The accused men apparently dragged Paswan’s dead body to nearby potato farms. Police have taken charge of the case and are investigating the matter. SDPO, Nalanda says, "He was shot dead due to personal enmity. We are investigating the matter."
