'Bhagwa JNU': Hindu Sena Puts Up Saffron Flags & Posters Outside Campus, Warns Students | SEE PICS

Claiming responsibility, Hindu Sena chief Vishnu Gupta said that the posters reading "Bhagwa (saffron) JNU" have been put up by the right-wing outfit's national vice-president Surjit Singh Yadav.

New Delhi: Close to a week after a clash broke out in a Jawaharlal Nehru University hostel, saffron flags were seen outside the campus along with "Bhagwa JNU" posters on Friday.

On April 10, a scuffle was reported between two student groups, Left activists and ABVP members, at JNU allegedly over serving non-veg food during Ram Navami.

According to news agency PTI, the Hindu Sena has put up posters and saffron flags near the main gate of the JNU and surrounding areas.

It also warned of "stringent steps" if there is an "insult to saffron".

Claiming responsibility, Hindu Sena chief Vishnu Gupta said that the posters reading "Bhagwa (saffron) JNU" have been put up by the right-wing outfit's national vice-president Surjit Singh Yadav.

Citing a video circulated on WhatsApp, PTI quoted Vishnu Gupta as purportedly saying, "Saffron is being insulted in the JNU campus on a regular basis. We want to warn those who are doing this. Mend your ways. We won't tolerate this."

"We respect your ideology and every religion. Insult to saffron will not be tolerated and we might take stringent steps," he added in the video.

About the Sunday scuffle between two student groups at JNU, the university administration said that no violence will be tolerated on campus and warned the students from getting involved in any incident which disturbs peace and harmony on campus.

The two groups have claimed that over 60 students from both sides were injured.

The JNU Students' Union (JNUSU) alleged that Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad members stopped students from eating non-vegetarian food in the hostel mess and "created a violent atmosphere".

On the other hand, the right-wing ABVP denied the charge and claimed that "Leftists" obstructed a puja programme organised at the hostel on Ram Navami.

Source of Union Education Ministry told news agency ANI that the Ministry on Monday took note of unrest in Jawaharlal Nehru University Campus and directed the administration to submit details of the entire incident.

Newly-appointed Vice-Chancellor Prof Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit on Wednesday said that JNU is a nationalist institution and not "Tukde-Tukde" as perceived earlier.
