'Not Acceptable': Bengal CM Mamata Says BJP 'Saffronising' Indian Cricket Jersey
In her fresh attack at the ruling BJP, Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has said that the party is "saffronising" the Indian cricket team's jersey.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has accused the BJP-led central government of trying to saffronise various institutions across the country, including the Indian cricket team. The Bengal CM, during an event in Kolkata, alleged the BJP has is not only "saffronising" the Indian cricket team jersey but metro stations as well.
"They are trying to paint the entire country in saffron color. We are proud of our Indian players. I am sure they will be champions in the World Cup but they (BJP) have brought saffron color there too. Our boys are now practicing in saffron-colored jerseys. Metro stations have been painted saffron. This is unacceptable," Banerjee said without naming anyone. , CM Banerjee condemned this act, which she considers partisan politics.
Mamata's Reference To Mayawati's Statue
The TMC supremo also referred to the statue of former UP CM Mayawati which the latter got made during her rule in the state. "I have no objection to erecting their statues but they are trying to paint everything in saffron colour," she said citing the example of BSP chief.
"I once saw it. Mayawati had got a statue of herself made. After that, I didn't hear anything like it. This kind of gimmick cannot always lead to profit. Power comes and goes," she further said. Taking a dig at the BJP, Mamata Banerjee said that this country belongs to the people, not just one party.
The Bengal CM also targeted the central government for stopping state funds and said that thousands of (MNREGA) workers have been left deprived. "Earlier I had fought the CPI(M) and now I have to fight the party in power in Delhi," she said.
BJP Retaliates To Mamata's Allegations
Reacting to Mamata Banerjee's allegations, BJP called it a 'reflection of vindictive attitude'. BJP leader Rahul Sinha said, "After a few days she may question why there is saffron color in our national flag. We do not consider it appropriate to even react to such statements."
