Bengal Appeals HC For Time To Answer Allegations Of NHRC Report

The report submitted to the High Court by the NHRC will be answered thoroughly by the State. If necessary, the State can also go to the Supreme Court.

The Home Secretary of West Bengal, IAS H.K. Dwivedi held a high-level meeting in the wake of the National Human Rights Commission's report to the Calcutta High Court on 13th July.

The report submitted to the High Court by the NHRC will be answered thoroughly by the State. If necessary, the State can also go to the Supreme Court. The State will further ask the High Court for time to thoroughly respond to the allegations made by the National Human Rights Commission.

The state government has affirmed to extend all possible support and cooperation to the political leaders and ministers identified in the report of the National Human Rights Commission as tainted accused.

The 123 accused and suspected political leaders and ministers have also been advised to file a defamation suit against the NHRC’s report.

The Home Secretary held a meeting with high-ranking police officials for discussing the matter.

The Calcutta High Court consisting of a bench of five judges, has said that these type of cases should be put to trial outside the state.

The NHRC had filed a 50 pages report to the High Court concerning the post poll violence in the State of West Bengal. It had accused and suspected 123 ministers and political leaders in charge of the violence and even listed 13 police stations where registration of FIRs is low. It has recently also appealed for a CBI probe on the post election violence in West Bengal.
