11 accused have already been arrested in the case and two including a minor are on the run.
The widow's 24-year-old son, according to authorities, was in love with an 18-year-old woman. Her family had planned for the woman's marriage to another guy on December 11. However, the pair had fled before the intended engagement ceremony.
The police have detained 11 persons in the case and are on the lookout for others. The victim has been given two acres of land by the state government as part of the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation's Land Ownership Scheme.
The Karnataka High Court, hearing a suo motu case, ruled on Saturday that no individual, organisation, association, or political party should visit the lady without written permission from the trauma doctor.
The decision was made after Chief Justice Prasanna B Varale saw a video clip in which officials of the National Human Rights Commission and a political party group visited the woman. JP Nadda, the national president of the BJP, has appointed a five-member "fact-finding committee" to examine the scene of the event.
“However, considering the fact that the victim has suffered unbearable trauma, the flow of visitors is likely to affect her health condition and disturb the medical treatment. Therefore, we deem it appropriate to restrict visitors in the best interest of the victim and to secure undisturbed medical treatment," the court stated.
