Bahraich: Hindu dominated villages live in darkness, locals blame previous SP govt for it

New Delhi: India has millions of people who lack access to electricity and for whom living in darkness is a way of life. Proving electricity to every village in the state is a challenge which none of the governments in the country’s largest state Uttar Pradesh have been ever able to meet. And to add more insult to it are many villages in the state which still live in darkness due to religious discrimination. There are villages in Bahraich district which haven’t had access to electricity even after 70 years of independence.  Locals allege the main reason behind it is their villages being Hindu dominated. Basic infrastructures such as distribution transformer and distribution lines haven’t been set up ever since and previous Samajwadi Government MLA & Power Minister Yasir Shah has deliberately turned a blind eye to the villagers’ plight. The villagers here too aren’t aware of the country’s PM and state’s CM as they haven’t watched television. Some of them who were aware of Yogi coming into power hope to see their homes lit up with electricity in the future. Mild relief is only is in the form of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana which has reached out to a certain families giving them access to gas cylinders. ABP News investigated five villages which include Mahapurva gaon, Bhohajor, Balbhadrapur Bankati Gaon, in the district to find out why electrification has been denied to this part of the state. Watch it below: POWER POLITICS
  • While addressing an election rally in Fatehpur district ahead of UP elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had accused Uttar Pradesh's ruling Samajwadi Party of playing politics over religion and caste. "If a graveyard is built in a village, so should there be a cremation ground. If there is electricity in Ramzan, it should also be there on Diwali; there should be no discrimination,"PM said.
  • With an aim to decrease pain of one of the most power-deficient state in India, Yogi Adityanath has also promised of 18 hours of electricity in rural areas from April 14.
