Ensure No Typist, Computer, Printer For Arvind Kejriwal: PIL In Delhi HC Against Orders From Custody

A PIL was filed in Delhi High Court seeking directions to the Centre, Delhi government and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to restrain Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal from issuing directions

A public interest litigation (PIL) was filed on Tuesday in Delhi High Court seeking directions to the Centre, Delhi government and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to restrain Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal from issuing directions or orders while in custody. The plea also seeks to stop ED from providing a typist, computer and printer to Kejriwal while he is in custody. The PIL states that it is against the legal framework and computer, typist and printer cannot be made selectively available only to some persons and denied to others.

The petition has been filed by one Surjit Singh Yadav, a Delhi resident claiming to be a farmer and social worker. The PIL seeks a direction from the Union Government, ED and Delhi Government to restrain Kejriwal from issuing directions while in police custody.

On March 21, ED arrested Kejriwal in connection with the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam. He was remanded by the trial court to six-day ED custody till March 28.

The plea also seeks investigation into how Kejriwal Issued directions or orders while in police custody and how it reached Delhi Minister Atishi. The plea further contends that orders issued by Kejriwal may influence the fair and proper investigation by ED.

Last week, after Kejriwal's arrest, Yadav had also moved a PIL seeking the removal of Arvind Kejriwal from the post of Chief Minister of Delhi.

On March 24, Kejriwal issued his first government order from jail. The order was issued to the Water Department of the Delhi Government, of which senior party leader Atishi is in charge. Atishi read the order in a press conference.

On March 26, Kejriwal issued the second order from jail for the health department. Delhi health minister Saurabh Bharadwaj shared the details of order in a press conference.

After he was arrested by the ED, the AAP chief said he will not resign from the post of Chief Minister and would instead run his office from the ED custody.
