Army On Alert After Soldiers On Patrolling Duty Fired Upon By Terrorists In J&K's Rajouri

Indian Army soldiers were fired upon by suspected terrorists in J&K's Rajouri. There was no casualty but an alert has been sounded to maintain strict vigil.

Indian Army troops were deployed at the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri after an alert was sounded to maintain strict vigil. This comes after soldiers on patrolling duty were fired upon from a forest across the LoC on Saturday, prompting retaliation by the Indian troops.

"There was no casualty in the brief firing but an alert has been sounded to maintain strict vigil," security officials told news agency PTI.

Officials said that the Indian soldiers were fired upon while they were on a patrolling duty in forward village in the Keri sector. A few suspected terrorists, hiding in a forest across the border, fired a few rounds at the troops. They were apparantely seeking an opportunity to infiltrate into India, PTI reported.

Following this, the Army troops, in a retaliatory move, fired a few rounds at the suspected terrorists. An anti-infiltration grid was strengthened thereafter for vigillance in the area in order to prevent them from entering the region.

The firing took place just a day after CRPF Director General GP Singh reviewed the security situation in Rajouri during his two-day visit to the forward areas in the district.

Singh had also met J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday to brief him about the force's preparedness for counter-terrorism operations and managing law and order in the region.

He also interacted with personnel at the new Kopra Counter Insurgency camp which has been established under the CRPF's 237 Battalion. While engaging with the soldiers and officers, Singh laid stress on maintaining strong commitment to duty and ensuring a healthy work-life balance, PTI reported citing officials.
