Amritsar: BSF Shoots Down Industrial Grade Mapping Inspection Drone Near India-Pakistan International Border

The drone, identified as a quadcopter from the DJI Matrice 300 RTK series, was recovered by the authorities.

Border Security Force (BSF) personnel successfully intercepted and shot down a drone that had entered Indian territory from Pakistan's side near the international border in Amritsar, according to a spokesperson on Thursday. Around 9 pm on Wednesday, BSF personnel heard the buzzing sound of an unmanned aerial vehicle near Bhaini Rajputana village in Amritsar and immediately opened fire, the spokesperson stated. A joint search operation involving the BSF and Punjab Police was conducted, leading to the discovery of the damaged drone in a field adjacent to the Rajatal-Bharopal-Daoke tri-junction on the outskirts of the village.

The drone, identified as a quadcopter from the DJI Matrice 300RTK series, was recovered by the authorities, the official added.

The Matrice 300 RTK drone is categorised as an industrial-grade mapping inspection drone, as per the DJI enterprise.

In a separate incident, border security forces seized over two kilograms of heroin that was airdropped by another Pakistani drone in Tarn Taran district, the spokesperson revealed.

In Tarn Taran, BSF personnel detected the drone's presence coming from the Pakistani side near Wan village, and successfully intercepted it, the spokesperson confirmed. Shortly after, the troops noticed a suspicious motorcycle heading from Wan and attempted to stop it. However, the rider evaded the BSF troops and fled towards Mari Kamboke village. A pursuit ensued, and the bike was eventually abandoned in the village.

Following a thorough search, security forces discovered a packet wrapped in yellow adhesive tape. The packet contained approximately 2.50 kilograms of heroin. It is suspected that the motorcycle rider was transporting the packet after the drone dropped it off.
