Ajmer Dargah's Cleric Threatens Nupur Sharma with 'Beheading' Over Prophet Remarks, FIR Filed

In the viral video, the cleric says he would give his house to anyone who brings the head of Sharma to him.

A cleric of Ajmer Dargah has allegedly threatened to killed former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Nupur Sharma for her controversial remark on Prophet Mohammad. In a video that has gone viral on social media, the clearic can be purportedly heard saying that he would gift his house to anyone who beheads Sharma. According to reports, the Rajasthan Police have registered an FIR on the basis of a complaint against Salman Chishti, the dargah 'khadim', over a video clip.

Police are on the lookout for a cleric. In the viral video, the cleric says he would give his house to anyone who brings the head of Sharma to him. Chishti even said that he would have shot her dead for insulting Prophet Mohammad.

"You have to give a reply to all Muslim countries. I am saying this from Ajmer, Rajasthan and this message is from Huzur Khwaja Baba ka Darbar," he said in the video. Huzur Khwaja Baba ka Darbar is a Sufi shrine that sees many Hindu visitors, apart from Muslim devotees.

Dargah Station House Officer Dalveer Singh Faujdar told news agency PTI that efforts are on trace the ‘khadim’. He said the accused has a criminal background. Four people were arrested in connection with another provocative speech allegedly delivered at the main gate of the Ajmer Dargah on June 17.

The arrests were made after the murder of an Udaipur tailor by two men who said they were avenging an insult to Islam last week.

Additionally, an official of Ajmer Dargah condemned Chishti's video and said that the shrine is seen as a place of communal harmony. The views expressed by the ‘khadim’ in the video cannot be considered a message from the dargah, it said.

Hours after the Udaipur murder that triggered communal tension in the state, the two main accused were caught by police. Three others were arrested later and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is now probing the case.

Meanwhile, a lookout notice was also issued against Sharma whose controversial comments about Prophet Muhammad had created nationwide stir and tension last month. The notice was issued as Sharma did not turn up after she was sent two notices for appearance for interrogation. Kolkata Police is the first to issue a lookout notice against Sharma on this issue.
