Air India Pilot, Crew Grounded Over Man Urinating On Woman On Flight

One pilot and four cabin crew of Air India have been issued a show cause notice and de-rostered till the investigation is pending.

Air India Passenger Urinating Case: The airline has grounded and issued a show cause notice to one pilot and four cabin crew in the case.

According to ANI, Air India CEO-MD Campbell Wilson said, "In the instance of the incident onboard AI102 operating between New York and Delhi on 26 Nov 2022, four cabin crew and one pilot have been issued show cause notices and de-rostered pending investigation."

He added that internal investigations into whether there were lapses by other staff are ongoing. He said that aspects including the service of alcohol on the flight, incident handling, complaint registration on board, and grievance handling are also being examined, reported ANI.

According to PTI, Wilson also apologised for the "condemnable" act in the statement.

Accused Shankar Mishra Arrested

The accused in the case, Shankar Mishra was on Friday arrested from a homestay in Bengaluru and was brought to Delhi. He wasthen taken to the IGI police station for investigation.

Air India staff reached IGI police station while police questioned Mishra. He will be produced before a court today, the police said.

Wells Fargo Fired Shankar Mishra

Earlier, US financial services company Wells Fargo sacked Shankar Mishra, saying that the allegations were "deeply disturbing", reported PTI.

The company said in a statement that it holds its employees to the highest standards of professional and personal behaviour and "we find these allegations deeply disturbing."  

"We are cooperating with law enforcement and ask that any additional inquiry be directed to them," the statement further read. 

Shankar's Father Defends Him, Claims Allegations Are 'False'

In a bid to defend Shankar Mishra, his father Shyam Mishra on Friday said on camera that "perhaps he (his son) was being blackmailed". He also claimed that the case against his son is "false". 

"She (victim) had demanded payment and it was made. Don't know what happened next. Must have demanded something that perhaps wasn't met that upset her. Perhaps there was blackmailing, there must be something," he said, reported ANI. 

Shyam Mishra claimed that his son slept in the flight and was questioned by the airline staff after he woke up.
