New Generation Ballistic Missile Agni Prime Successfully Testfired Off Odisha Coast For Third Time

Agni Prime New Generation Ballistic Missile: The performance of the system has been validated using the data obtained by a number of range instrumentation

New Delhi: Defence officials on Thursday informed that India successfully testfired Agni Prime, the new generation ballistic missile, off the coast of Odisha at around 9:45 am.

"During the test flight, the missile travelled the maximum range and all test objectives were successfully met. With this third consecutive successful flight test of the Agni Prime missile, the accuracy and reliability of the system have been established," Defence officials said, as quoted by news agency ANI.

It was further informed that the performance of the system has been validated using the data obtained by a number of range instrumentation like Radar, Telemetry and Electro Optical Tracking systems deployed at different locations including two down-range ships at the terminal point to cover the entire trajectory.

Earlier, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully tested the new generation nuclear-capable ballistic missile ‘Agni P’ from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam island off the coast of Odisha on December 18, 2021. Various telemetry, radar, electro-optical stations and down-range ships positioned along the eastern coast tracked and monitored the missile trajectory and parameters.

The missile followed textbook trajectory meeting all mission objectives with high level of accuracy, a release by the Ministry of Defence had informed.

The Agni P is a two-stage canisterised solid propellant ballistic missile with dual redundant navigation and guidance system.
