200 Farmers Gather At Jantar Mantar To Protest Against Agri Laws; Oppn Escalates Attack In Parliament

Around 200 farmers have been given permission to participate in the demonstration at the Jantar Mantar which takes place during the Monsoon Session of Parliament.

New Delhi: The farmers, who have been camping at Delhi borders over the last eight months, began their protests at the Jantar Mantar in the national capital against the three contentious agri laws passed by the Central government last year.

Around 200 farmers have been given permission to participate in the demonstration at the Jantar Mantar which takes place during the Monsoon Session of Parliament.

Meanwhile, the opposition MPs created a ruckus inside the Parliament and demanded the government to withdraw the three agricultural laws. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also participated in this protest.

Strict security arrangements have been made during the Kisan Sansad organized by the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha. The media has also not been allowed inside. The farmers sitting on the agitation have once again demanded the government to repeal the agricultural laws.

Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi alleged that the government is flouting the promises made to the farmers, adding the farmers are forced to protest. Congress MP Deepender Hooda on his part alleged that the government was running away from discussion on the issue of farmers.

The government has on the other said it is ready for talks with the protesting farmers.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and former Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Modi said the government is ready for talks but the farmers are adamant.

The farmers mostly from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have been camping at Delhi borders since November last year, demanding that the Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, Farmers' (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020, be rolled back and a new law made to guarantee minimum support price for crops.

Several rounds of talks between the farmers and the government have failed to break the deadlock.
