India Slams OIC's 'Communal Mindset' For Statement On Hijab Row

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation has tried to put pressure on India over hijab row in Karnataka. The government said that the 57-member bloc was being 'misused by vested interests'.

New Delhi: India on Tuesday said the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation's (OIC) remarks on hijab row in Karnataka was "motivated and misleading". The government further said that the 57-member bloc was being "misused by vested interests" for the latter's anti-India agenda.

The official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs Arindam Bagchi issued a press release on Tuesday on the issue. "Issues in India are considered and resolved in accordance with our constitutional framework and mechanisms, as well as democratic ethos and polity," Bagchi said.

"The communal mindset of the OIC Secretariat does not allow for a proper appreciation of these realities. OIC continues to be hijacked by vested interests to further their nefarious propaganda against India," he added

"As a result, it has only harmed its own reputation," he said.

“We have noted yet another motivated and misleading statement from the General Secretariat of the OIC on matters pertaining to India. Issues in India are considered and resolved in accordance with our constitutional framework and mechanisms, as well as democratic ethos and polity,” Arindam noted in a statement.

The ministry further said that the OIC had a "communal mindset", due to which the group cannot properly appreciate "these realities".

“OIC continues to be hijacked by vested interests to further their nefarious propaganda against India,” the statement read.

A total of 57 Muslim countries are included in the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, including Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia. It is considered the second largest organisation in the world after the United Nations.
