Income Tax: Now, Taxpayers Can File Returns At Nearby Post Office

Apart from filing returns with India Post offer, an individual can also file returns through the new income tax website — www.incometax.gov.in.

New Delhi: In order to ease Income Tax filing returns for taxpayers, India Post has started providing with an option to file their ITR at nearest post office's Common Services Centres (CSC). This provision has been made to make Income tax return (ITR) filing easy and convenient. The announcement by India Post on filing returns at the post office brings relief to lakhs of salaried income taxpayers across the country.

"Now no need to travel far to file your income tax returns. You can easily access income tax return services at your nearest post office CSC counter," the India Post said on its official Twitter handle.

The common man uses various financial services including postal, banking and insurance services, through Post Office’s CSC counters across the nation. Through these Post Office CSC counters, an individual can get many other government benefits and information. CSC works as access points for delivery of various electronic services to villages in India, while contributing to a digitally and financially inclusive society.

Under the Digital India programme, the government also offers various e-services to the citizens. Apart from filing returns with India Post offer, an individual can also file returns through the new income tax website — www.incometax.gov.in.

This move comes at a time when the newly launched income tax website is facing backlash due to techincal glitches.

The new income tax portal "http://www.incometax.gov.in" had a patchy start from the day of its launch on June 7 as it continued to face techical glitches, which prompted Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to call a meeting on June 22 with officials of Infosys which has developed the new website.

Technical glitches, however, continue to affect the working of the portal as certain key utilities are not yet functional, as per tax experts.

Infosys on Wednesday said it is focused on "expeditiously" resolving issues related to the new income tax portal and termed it as the "single largest priority" for the company at the moment.
