Hijab Row: Karnataka CM Bommai Says Court Order Must Be Followed As Controversy Resurfaces

Hijab Row: Karnataka CM Bommai made the comment while the controversy resurfaced in Karnataka with Mangaluru University students staging a protest against Muslim students attending classes with hijab.

Chennai: "Whatever decision they (court) take, it has to be followed (sic)," said Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai while commenting about the Hijab row on Saturday. The CM also said that there is no need for raising the hijab issue.

Talking to the media, Bommai said, "There is no need of raising an issue. Court has already given its judgment."

"Everyone is following the judgment, 99.99% have followed... whatever decision they take, it has to be followed," he said.

The protesting students also accused the principal of failing to make the 40 Muslim girls remove their Hijab before entering the campus. They also condemned that the move of the University was against the Karnataka High Court order.

In March, Karnataka High Court upheld the hijab ban in classrooms. It also dismissed the batch of pleas by Muslim girls who sought the court to provide the right to wear hijab in classrooms.
