In the latest development, the Centre issued fresh covid-19 guidelines for children on the basis of 'Revised Comprehensive Guidelines for Management of COVID-19 in Children and Adolescents (below 18 years)'.
As per the new guidelines, the use of antivirals or monoclonal antibodies is not recommended for those less than 18 years of age, even if the severity of Covid infection is higher. The Health Ministry also said that if steroids are been given to children they should be tapered over 10 to 14 days. The guidelines were revised after a meeting of a group of experts in view of the current surge that is mainly attributed to the Omicron variant.
Kerala on Thursday recorded its highest-single day spike in covid-19 cases at 46,387. This is the biggest spike for the southern state in a single day since the pandemic broke out in March 2020.
Delhi reported as many as 12,306 fresh cases of Covid-19 and 43 more fatalities, while Mumbai logged 5,708 new infections and 12 deaths in the previous day.
Meanwhile, India recorded 3,17,532 new Covid cases on Thursday, a 12.2% jump from the previous day's reported 2.82 lakh daily cases.
Asserting India is not witnessing severe illness, the Central government on Thursday said the deaths in the third wave of the coronavirus are due to high vaccination. Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said the deaths due to Covid-19 are significantly less in the third wave of coronavirus in comparison to the second wave.
