Coronavirus Under Control In Delhi, Yet To Receive Center's Help In PPE Kits: CM Arvind Kejriwal

The CM has acknowledged that the state is facing a shortage in Personal protective equipment and claimed that despite urging the Central government to provide essential kits to doctors & nurses, he is yet to receive their help.

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal held a press conference on Saturday and assured citizens that the cases in the capital city are under control and there are no substantial traces of Coronavirus community transmission, yet there might be a surge in number of positive cases due to Tablighi Jamaat event. "In Delhi, out of 445 total cases, there are only 40 Covid-19 positive cases due to local transmission, other cases are due to foreign travel and Nizamuddin Markaz. This is something that makes me believe corona is not spreading here, it is under control," he said. While speaking to reporters via video conferencing, Kejriwal also gave a detailed status of cases that have come out of the Tablighi Jamaat event held at Delhi's Nizamuddin area earlier this month. "Out of around 2300 people who were brought out from Markaz, 500 that showed symptoms have been admitted to hospitals and 1800 are under quarantine. We are getting all of them tested, their results will come in 2-3 days, it may lead to an increase in positive cases," Delhi CM said. The CM has acknowledged that the state is facing a shortage in Personal protective equipment and claimed that despite urging the Central government to provide essential kits to doctors & nurses, he is yet to receive their help. "We are facing a shortage of PPE kits. We have written to the Centre to supply the kits, essential for our doctors and nurses. But we haven't received even one PPE kit from the Union government so far." Talking about the patients who have been admitted in hospital, he added: "Out of all the Covid-19 patients in Delhi that are admitted, 11 are in intensive care units (ICUs) and 5 are on ventilators, all others are in stable condition. There is local transmission but not community transmission." Reacting to the number of Coronavirus deaths in the national capital, Kejriwal laid emphasis on the cause of  death being either old age or some major disease. "We have analysed the 6 deaths caused by corona. Most of them were either old or had some major disease," he said. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief once again urge senior citizens and individuals suffering from some major diseases, to stay at home and take extra precautions. The CM has also requested people to be mindful of non-ration card holders around them and help them register online, so that they can avail ration. He has assured that all these people will be given 5 kg ration.
