Vijaya Dashami 2021: Check Messages, Wishes To Share With Family, Friends

New Delhi: With five-day festivities of Durge Puja coming to a close with Goddess Durga returning to her abode and Ravan going up in flames, the Durga Puja and Dussehra celebrations are over for this year. However, festivities in a Bengali household are still not over. Vijaya Dashmi assumes a lot of significance with people visiting friends and relatives to exchange ‘Shubho Bijoya’ greetings. The youngsters touch feet of the elders to seek blessings, and men embrace each othet with a ‘kolakuli’ (hug). They offer sweets to each other and indulge in feasting.

Vijaya Dashami, is celebrated on the tenth day of the Hindu calendar's Ashvin month (September-October).

Significance of Dussehra
Dussehra marks the end of five-day festivities of Durga Puja. The day marks Lord Ram’s victory over the evil King Ravana. In Bengal and other parts of the country, devotees prepare to bid farewell to the goddess. This year Durga Puja clebrations in line with the Covid-19 pandemic protocols.

Dussehra is celebrated with much fanfare where people enjoy watching Ram Leela where actors enact Lord Rama's life. It is organized on all nine days of Navratri which ends with the killing of Ravana and burning of his life-size effigy on the day of Dussehra or Vijayadashami along with those of Meghnad and Kumbhakaran.
