New Delhi: Ekadashi is the eleventh lunar day (tithi) of each of the two lunar phases which occur in an vedic calendar month - Shukla Paksha. It is considered as a day to cleanse the body, aid repair and rejuvenation and is usually observed by partial or complete fast. Usually, there are 24 Ekadashi's in an year but during a leap year there may be two extra Ekadashis. 

According to Hindu belief, fasting on Vijaya Ekadashi fulfills every wish of the fasting person and they'll start to seen success in every task. It is also believed to get rid of all the sins of the previous birth and this birth. Fasting begins from sunrise on the day of Ekadashi to sunrise on the following day.

Ekadashi also known as Hari Vasara because it is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, is a day of fasting and prayers for all Hindus. 

People usually consume satvik food, as high protein and carbohydrate-containing foods such as beans and grains are not consumed on this day. Observant people only consume, fruits, vegetables, and milk products
