Raksha Bandhan 2023 Live: Hello and welcome to Raksha Bandhan 2023 live blog, please follow this space for all the latest updates on this auspicious day and have a look at the celebrations around the country.
Raksha Bandhan is a celebration of the deep bond that siblings share. This year, however, the occasion presents a unique dilemma. Raksha Bandhan is traditionally observed on the 'Poornima Tithi' (full moon day) of the 'Shukla Paksha' in the 'Shravan Maas' (Sawan month), but many people are confused about the exact date. The question is whether we should celebrate Raksha Bandhan on August 30 or 31, or both?
The occurrence of 'Bhadra Kaal' and the full moon phase coincided in 2023, causing a conflict in determining the precise date. The 'Poornima tithi' begins on August 30 at 10:58 AM and ends on August 31 at 7:05 AM, according to the Drik Panchang. During Rakhi, 'Bhadra Poonch' will last from 5:30 PM to 6:31 PM, and 'Bhadra Mukha' will last from 6:31 PM to 8:11 PM. Bhadra Kaal will come to an end at 9:01 PM
Raksha Bandhan 2023: Shubh Muhurat:
- Purnima Tithi (Full Moon) begins on Wednesday, August 30 at 10:58 a.m. and lasts until Thursday, August 31 at 07:05 a.m.
- Bhadra, on the other hand, coincides with the full moon and will end at 09:01 PM.
- As a result, the shubh muhurat for tying the Rakhi and performing the ceremonies will be after 9:01 p.m. on August 30.
- Those who were unable to celebrate the Rakhi tying ceremony on the night of August 30 can do so on August 31, before 07.05 AM.
- The ceremony lasts ten hours and four minutes in total.
Rakhi is traditionally tied around the wrists of brothers to bestow blessings for a prosperous life. Brothers reciprocate by promising their sisters protection and unconditional love, as well as gifts. Customs have evolved in modern times, with brothers now tying Rakhi on their sisters' wrists. Furthermore, all aspects of the rituals are actively participated in by the sisters, indicating an inclusive celebration.
The confluence of auspicious timings and Bhadra Kaal adds a layer of complexity as the dual dates of Raksha Bandhan 2023 approach. The decision of when to observe the cherished tradition ultimately rests with each family's beliefs and practises, demonstrating the variety of ways in which this timeless festival is celebrated.
