Holika Dahan 2022: How To Perform Puja Of 'Holika Dahan' — Know Shubh Muhurat

Make Sure To Offer These In Holika

On the evening of Phalgun Poornima, women worship Holi at the time of Holika Dahan and offer various things used in puja to Holi, such as umbi, cakes made from cow dung, coconut etc. The things which are offered in Holi traditionally also carry some meaning to them.

Umbi: It symbolises the new grain. At this time the wheat crop is harvested. Umbi is offered in Holi to express our gratitude to God. So it is offered in fire and grains are used as an offering.

Garland of cow dung cakes: Agni and Indra are considered to be the Gods of the full moon of Spring. These are offered as a symbol of adorning the ornament to fire.

Coconut: Coconut is called 'Shriphal' in the scriptures. It is offered as fruit and taken out of Holika Dahan and consumed by all the members of the family as an offering.

To Address The Defects In The House

Astrologer Suresh Srimali points out that it is almost impossible to live in a house without Vastu doshas (defects of a house). If the direction of the place of worship, kitchen, toilet or bedroom in people's houses are not right as per Vastu, there is stress, hurdles in progress and negative energy for family staying.

In order to remove this, one should first remember Ishtdev and guru on the next day of Holika Dahan i.e. the day of the playing Holi. After that, thoroughly clean the northeast corner of your house, which is called the 'Ishan Kon', and offer gulal and make 'swastika' symbol with vermilion on both sides of your main door.

Also, draw a rangoli outside the house and light a four-faced lamp, put mustard oil in it, put black sesame seeds, two black peppers, a little Nagkesar (ironwood) in it and when the flame goes out the next day, press in the lamp with wick and leftover oil in it in your house garden or a planter/pot.

This will ensure that your house is blessed with the blessings of God and all the negative energy in your house will be destroyed and positive energy will flow and any Vastu dosh in the house will also be corrected permanently.
