It is believed that by observing this fast, Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati are pleased and bless the woman with a child and give a long life to her husband. Hariyali Teej fast is also known as Shravani Teej because Hariyali Teej falls in the month of Sawan.

During Hariyali Teej fast, women wear green coloured sarees, and bangles which are sent from their maternal home.
