A Guru, also known as a spiritual master, is someone who teaches and empowers seekers on the path to the Divine. A Guru provides guidance that allows the disciple to reach the ultimate destination, which is the realm of the Divine. Countless disciples all over the world celebrate Guru Purnima with utmost devotion in their hearts to express gratitude for the Guru who makes self-realization and attainment of the Divine possible. Because Jupiter is considered the manifestation of 'Brihaspati,' the Guru of the Gods of Heaven in Vedic Astrology, the occasion of Guru Purnima also has astrological significance.

It is recommended that you use this cosmically charged day to honour 'Dev Guru Brihaspati' by having a Guru Purnima Puja performed in your honour.

According to the Hindu Lunar Calendar, Guru Purnima occurs on the Purnima Tithi or Full Moon of the 'Shukla Paksha' (Waxing or Bright Phase of the Moon) in the month of Ashada.

Significance Of Guru Purnima:

Guru Purnima is a day when the entire cosmos emits phenomenally powerful positive energies that aid a spiritual seeker in accelerating his or her progress. This festival, however, is not limited to those who are completely dedicated to the spiritual path, but also to those who are entangled in material obligations or desires and want to make significant progress on the spiritual front without devoting their entire life to the ultimate goal.

Guru Purnima is celebrated with an unrivalled spirit of gratitude towards the Guru or master because it is the Guru's teachings and guidance that eventually and always results in the disciple attaining Divine consciousness.

There are various mantras or verses in the Holy Hindu scriptures which suggest that a Guru is essentially the 'Supreme Being' manifested as a human to help people to attain their ultimate spiritual goals and follow the path of righteousness throughout life.

The festival is also celebrated as a gesture of devotion and gratitude towards the Guru by spiritual path disciples or seekers to express their gratitude to their Gurus and the world. The Guru's teachings, guidance, and unwavering efforts enable the disciple to break free from the cycle of birth and death and achieve self-realization in the midst of never-ending divine bliss.
