New Delhi: Basant Panchami is a Hindu festival that is celebrated annually on the fifth day of the Hindu month of Magh. It typically falls in late January or early February. The festival is dedicated to the goddess of learning, Saraswati.

On this day, people worship the goddess of knowledge, music, and arts and is believed that Goddess Saraswati brings wisdom, knowledge, and good luck to her devotees. The festival is celebrated in different ways across India, with people visiting temples, offering prayers and flowers to the goddess, and participating in cultural events such as music and dance performances.

This year, Basant Panchami is going to be celebrated on January 26. 

Importance Of Yellow Colour On Basant Panchami:

Yellow is considered to be an auspicious colour in Hinduism and has significant meaning during the celebration of Vasant Panchami or Saraswati Puja. The colour yellow is associated with the goddess Saraswati as it is her favourite colour.

Yellow represents the colour of knowledge, learning, and wisdom, which are all qualities that are associated with the goddess. It is also said to symbolize the colour of spring, which is the season during which the festival is celebrated. In many parts of India, people dress in yellow clothing, decorate their homes with yellow flowers, and offer yellow fruits and sweets to the goddess as a symbol of their devotion.

Additionally, during the puja, people may offer yellow flowers like marigold to the goddess as it is believed to represent the colour of the rising sun, and the dawn of knowledge and wisdom.

The yellow colour also represents the colour of turmeric which is considered to be purifying and auspicious in Hinduism.

Food Offered To the Goddess On This Day:

Every festival in India calls for some luxurious indulgence, and because yellow is Goddess Saraswati's favourite colour, yellow-coloured delicacies like Khichdi, Pulao, and sweet dishes cooked with jaggery are served to the deity, along with fruits like ber and mishrikand. Boondi, sev, ber, and seasonal fruits are also offered to the Goddess in Bihar, coupled with dahi-chidwa.
