The government decided to track and take action against police officials after spurt in cases by criminal gangs. The summons also came after the goonda attack at Pattoor in Pettah police station limits and the explosive attack at Mangalapuram police station limit.

The authorities also reportedly received adverse intelligence reports against police officials, said a report on The Hindu.
