Several Students Of Private School Fall Ill Due To Suspected Food Poisoning In Kerala

Many students are still undergoing treatment at the hospitals and the exact figure of the affected children was not known, he said.

Several children of a private school fell ill after consuming food as part of Onam Celebrations in a private school in Kothamanagalam due to suspected food poisoning. The Kothamangalam police said that the incident took place last week but came to light only on Tuesday.

Talking to PTI, an official said, "A case will be registered and we will investigate the matter."

Many students are still undergoing treatment at the hospitals and the exact figure of the affected children was not known, he said.

The officer said that he would be recording the statement of the parents on Tuesday.

In the meantime, parents of several of the affected children told the media that despite the many medications and injections they had received at home and in the hospital, their children had been feeling under the weather after the incident.

"My kids have had a fever since Saturday (August 26) night and as it did not subside we took them to the hospital. Even now they are weak and lack energy," a parent told PTI.

On August 16, around 30 students fell ill after allegedly consuming food at a girl's residential school in Karnataka. The incident took place at Kasturba Gandhi Girls’ Residential School in Vijayapura district in the state. The officials suspect that the students were served food in which a dead lizard had fallen inside.

According to officials, some 30 students were reported being ill so doctors and medical personnel from the neighbouring Garasangi Primary Health Centre were rushed to the school. At the dormitory, the doctors treated the ailing students with first aid. Medical official Dr. Anil Kumar Shegunasi stated: "They were later transferred to the Taluk hospital for additional treatment, where the students' condition is said to be stable."
