Women Not Allowed To Share Power In RSS: Rahul Gandhi At Mahila Cong Convention

During the inauguration of 'Utsaah', Rahul Gandhi envisioned a Congress where 50% of Chief Ministers would be women in the next decade.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi championed women's empowerment at the 'Utsaah' (Mahila Congress State Convention) inauguration in Ernakulam's Marine Drive on Friday. Highlighting the central battleground between BJP and Congress as the treatment of women, he emphasized the historical role of women in the freedom struggle. Gandhi envisioned a Congress where 50% of Chief Ministers would be women in the next decade and critiqued the delayed implementation of the women's reservation Bill by the BJP.

At the inauguration of  'Utsaah' (Mahila Congress State Convention) at Marine Drive in Ernakulam, Rahul Gandhi said, “The central fight between the BJP and the Congress is about how women should be treated. In the pictures of the freedom struggle, you will see Mahatma Gandhi ji always standing with women. In the freedom struggle, women were at the forefront.”

He said: “Congress has had many female Presidents. Women should be part of the power structure. In the history of the RSS, it has never allowed women into its ranks. Women are not allowed to share power in the RSS!”

On the vision of Congress for women, Rahul Gandhi said that 50% of CMs from the party should be women 10 years from now. He said, "A good target for the Congress party would be if, in 10 years from today, 50% of our CMs are women. There are many women in the Congress who have the qualities to be very good Chief Ministers.”

On the women’s reservation Bill, Rahul Gandhi said, “This is the first time I have seen a bill passed in Parliament that will be implemented a decade later. The only bill that the BJP is implementing 10 years after its passing is the one that has to do with women's power.”

He said, the Congress fundamentally wants to bring women into the power structure.

“In today's political climate, which is fueled by hatred and violence, women are the biggest sufferers. It is important that the Mahila Congress fight the atmosphere of hatred and violence propagated by our opposition,” the Congress MP added.
