Kerala Reports 265 New COVID-19 Cases, One Death In 24 Hours

The total number of active coronavirus cases in Kerala was 2,606 on Friday. 

Kerala reported 265 new coronavirus infections and one death in the last 24 hours due to the disease. According to the data on the Union Health Ministry website, overall 382 coronavirus infections were reported nationwide till 8 AM on Friday. Of the total, 265 infections were from Kerala.

On Friday, the total number of active cases in Kerala was 2,606. 

With one fatality recorded in the state, the cumulative death toll from the coronavirus in Kerala over the past three years (since the first outbreak of infection) has now reached 72,060.

In the last 24 hours, 275 individuals diagnosed with the infection were successfully treated, discharged, or migrated. This has contributed to a total of 68,37,689 cases falling into this category up to the present date.

On Thursday, the state reported 300 new COVID-19 infections and recorded three deaths attributed to the disease.

Health Minister Veena George, on Tuesday, reassured the state's residents that despite the surge in COVID cases in Kerala, there is no need for alarm. She emphasized that the hospitals are well-equipped to handle virus infections.

Meanwhile, a Noida resident has tested positive for Covid, in a first case of the infection in Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddh Nagar after several months, officials said.

A 54-year-old male residing in Noida and employed at a multinational company in Gurugram has tested positive for COVID-19, as confirmed by Gautam Buddh Nagar Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sunil Sharma. The patient, who recently traveled to Nepal, went to work in Gurugram upon his return. His test sample has been sent to Delhi for genome sequencing, with results pending.

The individual, who is asymptomatic, voluntarily underwent the novel coronavirus test. This marks the sole confirmed case in Gautam Buddh Nagar as of now, according to District Surveillance Officer and healthcare expert Dr. Amit Kumar.
