IMD Issues Red Alert For Idukki, Orange Alert In 10 Districts. Check List

Many huge trees were uprooted due to the intense downpour in districts including Kollam, Alappuzha, Thrissur, Kottayam, and Ernakulam. 

Heavy rainfall battered many parts of Kerala and threw normal life out of gear on Tuesday. Several trees were uprooted, houses got inundated and waterlogging was reported in several places. Many huge trees were uprooted due to the intense downpour in districts including Kollam, Alappuzha, Thrissur, Kottayam, and Ernakulam. 

Electric posts were also damaged as trees fell over them. As a result, power blackouts were reported in many parts of the state. 

According to ANI, IMD issued red alert in Idukki district for today. Orange alert in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. Yellow alert in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts."

"For tomorrow (Thursday), Orange alert in Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. Yellow alert in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Palakkad."

The India Meteorological Department said that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to take place at isolated parts of Kerala. IMD said, “Heavy rainfall (7cm to 11cm in 24 hours) to very heavy rainfall (12cm to 20cm in 24 hours) is very likely to occur at isolated places in Kerala on July 5 and 6, 2023. Heavy rainfall (7cm to 11cm in 24 hours) is very likely to occur at isolated places in Kerala on July 7, 8.” 

On the prediction, IMD said that squally wind is likely to prevail over Southwest Bay of Bengal off Sri Lanka coast, Eastcentral Bay of Bengal, Central & adjoining South Arabian sea.

IMD said, “Squally wind with speed reaching 45-55 Kmph gusting to 65 Kmph is likely to prevail over Southwest Bay of Bengal off Sri Lanka coast, Eastcentral Bay of Bengal, Central & adjoining South Arabian sea. Squally weather with wind speed reaching 45-55 Kmph gusting to 65 Kmph is likely to prevail over South Tamilnadu coast, Gulf of Mannar & adjoining Comorin area,Southwest & adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal, Maldives area. Squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-45 Kmph gusting to 55 Kmph is likely to prevail over Andaman Sea.”
