Kerala: CPM Student Wing Holds March Against NEET 'Irregularities', Demands Union Minister's Resignation

Protesters held placards reading "NEET is not very neat" and "Stop playing with students' lives," as they marched to the AG's office.

The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), the youth wing of Kerala's ruling CPI(M), staged a protest march on Tuesday to the office of the Accountant General (AG), voicing their outrage over alleged irregularities in the NEET entrance exam. Protesters held placards reading "NEET is not very neat" and "Stop playing with students' lives," as they marched to the AG's office.

The protest was directed against the Narendra Modi government, with DYFI leaders attributing the recent issues with the medical entrance exam, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), to the central administration. The demonstrators called for the resignation of the Union Education Minister and a thorough investigation into the alleged malpractices.

Police had set up barricades to prevent the protesters from reaching the AG's office. Addressing the crowd, DYFI state president V Vaseef condemned the irregularities, stating they amounted to cheating students who had diligently prepared for the exam. He also alleged large-scale corruption in the administration of the test, demanding a central government investigation into the matter, according to a report on PTI.

"The central government should be ready to investigate it," Vaseef declared, warning that the DYFI would organize more protest marches across the country until a comprehensive inquiry is initiated, as per the report.

Last week, the Kerala assembly passed a resolution unanimously condemning the irregularities in both the NEET-UG and UGC-NET exams conducted by the NTA. The resolution urged the central government to address the grievances of affected candidates and conduct a detailed investigation into the exam conduct.

As the protests continue, the pressure mounts on the central government to address the concerns raised by students and political leaders alike.
