The incident took place while the victim was walking to Chowara beach from her resort at around 10 pm on Jan 31.

Chennai: A taxi driver and his friends were arrested and later released on bail for verbally abusing a foreign woman near Vizhinjam. The incident took place on Tuesday night and the accused was later arrested based on the complaint of the survivor.

According to ANI, Vizhinjam police said, “A foreign tourist was abused verbally by five men in Adimalathura near Vizhinjam in Thiruvananthapuram district while the victim was walking to Chowara beach from her resort at around 10 pm on Jan 31.”

“One of the accused Antony is a taxi driver whose car was used by the victim lady's parents and therefore he had the phone number of the lady and used it to send her messages. Later, a case was filed and the accused was arrested and granted bail,” it said.

However, another case was also registered against the accused for allegedly beating up the resort staff who insisted that they stop the abuse, as per a report on the Kerala Kaumudi.

It all started after the woman took a ride along with the family members in a taxi owned by the prime accused Antony. After the ride, he saved the contact of the woman and tried to take advantage. He also called the woman and allegedly harassed her over the phone.

Later, the gang tried to allegedly follow her to the beach and tried to verbally harass her. However, chef Raj Sheikh who saw this told them to stop the act. Following this, the gang allegedly beat him up.
