Cyclone Biparjoy: Fishermen In Kerala Coasts Advised To Not Venture Into Sea

Cyclone Biparjoy has rapidly intensified into a severe cyclonic storm on Wednesday.

The authorities in the coastal areas adjoining Arabian sea have started to issue warnings to prevent fishermen from venturing into the sea due to the cyclonic storm ‘Biparjoy’. The India Meteorological Centre (IMD) said that the Gale wind speed reaching 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph is likely to prevail over eastcentral Arabian Sea and adjoining areas of southeast Arabian.

According to ANI, “Warning issued by local authorities to prevent fishermen from venturing into the deep sea in view of severe cyclonic storm 'Biparjoy' over the Arabian Sea.”

A fisherman said, “Fishermen are staying close to the shore and not going deep sea after there were strong winds last night.”

In a special bulletin to fishermen, IMD said: “Gale wind speed reaching 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph is likely to prevail over eastcentral Arabian Sea and adjoining areas of southeast Arabian. It is likely to become 80-90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph from evening of 7 th June over the same area.”

“Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely over adjoining areas of westcentral & south Arabian Sea and along & off Goa coasts. Squally wind with speed reaching 45-55 Kmph gusting to 65 Kmph is likely to prevail over Gulf of mannar, south Tamilnadu coast and adjoining Comorin area,” it said.

Cyclone 'Biparjoy' has rapidly intensified into a severe cyclonic storm on Wednesday. With the Cyclonic storm, meteorologists predict a 'mild' monsoon onset over Kerala. 

Cyclone 'Biparjoy' is the first storm brewing in the Arabian Sea this year.

In the latest bulletin, IMD said, "Cyclonic storm Biparjoy over east-central and adjoining southeast Arabian Sea moved nearly northwards with a speed of 2 kmph during the last six hours, intensified into a severe cyclonic storm and lay centered over the same region at 0530 hours, about 890 km west-southwest of Goa, 1,000 km southwest of Mumbai, 1,070 km south-southwest of Porbandar and 1,370 km south of Karachi".

The IMD said it is very likely to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm during the next 13 hours and move nearly northwards during next 24 hours.
