'Thajuddin Sheikh Is Active Worker Of Cong, Close To Siddaramaiah': BJP MLA On Arrest Of Cong Leader's Son

Thajuddin Sheikh's son Reshaan Sheikh and another accused were arrested by NIA for allegedly receiving funds from ISIS handlers through crypto-wallets for carrying out terrorist works.

Chennai: “Congress should make their stand clear on whether they will terminate Reshaan Sheikh's father Thajuddin Sheikh, who is a Congress leader,” said Udupi BJP MLA Raghupathi Bhat on Friday. Reshaan Sheikh and another accused were arrested by NIA for allegedly receiving funds from ISIS handlers through crypto-wallets for carrying out terrorist works. 

According to ANI, Udupi BJP MLA Raghupathi Bhat said, “Reshaan Sheikh's father, Thajuddin Sheikh is an active worker of Congress. He's close to Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar. Congress should make their stand clear on whether they will terminate him from the party or promote him as Block president.”

On Friday, National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches at locations in Karnataka including Dakshina Kannada, Shivamogga, Davanagere and Bengaluru. Subsequent to the searches, two ISIS operatives were arrested.

The list of the accused persons includes Reshaan Thajuddin Sheikh, son of Thajuddi Sheikh and Huzair Farhan Baig, son of Basheer Baig.

During the searches, NIA also reportedly seized digital devices and incriminating documents from the houses of the accused and the suspects. NIA also arrested two other accused persons in the master.

In a release, the NIA said, “The case relates to a conspiracy hatched by the accused to further the terror activities of Islamic State (IS), a banned terrorist organization, and to endanger the unity, security and sovereignty of the country.”

“The investigation revealed that the accused Maaz Muneer radicalized his close associate and collegemate Reshaan Thajuddin. And 2 accused, Reshaan Thajuddin Sheikh and Huzair Farhan Beig received funds from their ISIS handler through Crypto-wallets for furthering the terrorist activities of the islamic State.”  the NIA said.

The NIA is conducting further investigation.
