Protests erupted in Bengaluru on Tuesday after an altercation between a group of individuals and a shopkeeper during 'Azaan' time on Sunday. The incident unfolded on March 17 when a shopkeeper played devotional songs near Siddanna Layout, leading to tensions and subsequent protests. Azaan is the call for prayer usually five times a day in a mosque.
On Tuesday, BJP MP Tejasvi Surya joined the protest in Bengaluru following the altercation over playing devotional songs during 'Azaan' time near Siddanna Layout. Following this, Tejasvi Surya was detained by the police. While he was taken away by the police, Tejasvi Surya urged the protestors to go back and said "Sab chale jao."
The detention was made while BJP called a peaceful procession from the victim Mukesh's shop with participants chanting 'Hanuman Chalisa'. Police also took Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje and BJP MLA S Suresh Kumar into preventive custody. Authorities stated that five individuals, including two were apprehended on Tuesday, in connection with the incident.
Earlier, the shopkeeper who was attacked by a group of over five men for playing devotional songs in Bengaluru said, "If something serious had happened to me in the incident that happened on Sunday, who would have been answerable? It feels good that people have come here to support me."
