Lingayat Icon Basavanna's Portrait To Be Unveiled In All Govt Offices On Feb 17: K'taka CM Siddaramaiah

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah emphasized that there is ample availability of funds for Basavanna's programs.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced on Tuesday that the portrait of Lingayat Basavanna will be unveiled in all government offices on February 17.

While unveiling the portrait of Karnataka cultural leader Sri Jagajyoti Basavanna, Karnataka Chief Minister said, “Basavanna's portrait will be unveiled in all government offices on February 17. I also request people to adopt his principles. We should be compassionate to others. Hatred is not good."

He mentioned that the old jail premises in Shivamogga have been renamed as Allama Prabhu, highlighting that these initiatives are aimed at fostering positive societal transformations.

“It was our government that named Bijapur Women's University as Akka Mahadevi University. We are doing these things to bring change in the society. The teachings of Basavadi Sharanas will remain relevant always,” the Chief Minister said, as per a report on IANS.

He emphasized that there is an ample availability of funds for Basavanna's programs.

The Chief Minister announced that the Karnataka government has recognized Basavanna as a Cultural Leader of Karnataka. "Buddha, Basava, Mahatma Gandhi, and Ambedkar all aimed for a society built on health and compassion. Basavanna dedicated himself to eradicating inequality and promoting self-respect for all," stated the Chief Minister.

Basava, also known as Basavanna, was a prominent figure in 12th-century CE India, renowned as a statesman, philosopher, poet, Lingayat social reformer, and Hindu Shaivite social reformer. His birthplace was the small village of Basavana Bagewadi in present-day Karnataka.

CM Siddaramaiah also changed the profile picture of his Twitter account to a portrait of Basavanna.
