Man Posing As Army Officer Arrested In Karnataka, Had 'Shared Sensitive Details With Pakistan's ISI'

The accused, a resident of Rajasthan, was reportedly in touch with one of the officers of Pakistan's spy agency ISI through WhatsApp.

Chennai: A man, who was posing as an Army officer, has been arrested by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) in Bengaluru on Monday for allegedly leaking sensitive information to Pakistan's spy agency ISI. It is alleged that the man arrested was in touch with one ISI officer through WhatsApp.

Till recently, the man arrested had disguised himself as an Army officer and had taken images of important installations and defence establishments of the Indian Army.

He had also shared the images and details with foreign agencies, as per information by Joint Commissioner of Police Sandeep Patil, said a tweet by ANI. CCB has booked him under Official Secrets Act and Indian Penal Code.

The accused has been identified as Jitender Singh and was arrested by CCB based on the information of the Military Intelligence.

The accused, a resident of Rajasthan, was reportedly in touch with one of the officers of Pakistan's spy agency ISI through Whatsapp, said a report in Times of India.

The CCB said, the agency along with Southern Command Military Intelligence arrested Jitender Singh for impersonating as an Army officer and further sharing the photos of Army areas and carrying out reconnaissance of Army posts near the International Border.

The agency also said that an investigation revealed that Singh had sent images of the Barmer military station and informed the officer about all the military vehicle's movement from the area to the officer.

In January this year, another Rajasthan resident Satyanarayan Paliwal was honey-trapped by Pakistan's intelligence agency ISI after being lured with nude pictures of women.

During the interrogation, Paliwal had told the officials that the person speaking on behalf of ISI shared naked pictures of women in exchange for information about the Army in border areas.
