Karnataka: Two Corpses Of COVID-19 Patients Recovered From ESI Hospital After 15 Months

After a new mortuary came for use the old mortuary was left unattended and only after a foul smell started emanating the staff went to clean the freezers.

Chennai: Two dead bodies of novel coronavirus patients were recovered after 15 months of their death at ESI Hospital mortuary in Rajajinagar in Bengaluru. The bodies were found after workers went to the cold storage unit for cleaning three days ago after a foul smell started emanating from the freezers.

According to a report on IANS, the two dead bodies remained in the storage without disposal due to the alleged negligence of the staff and doctors.

The two bodies were identified as Durga (40) of Chamarajpet and Muniraju (35) of KP Agrahara in Bengaluru. Both the patients were infected with novel coronavirus and were admitted to ESI hospital in July 2022.

However, both of them succumbed due to the COVID-19 infection and both the bodies were moved to an old mortuary for final rites to be conducted by BBMP. The civic agency, BBMP, was trusted with the disposal of the bodies of COVID-19 patients.

As the number of deaths increased due to COVID-19, the hospital authorities could not keep the dead bodies at the mortuary and another new mortuary was inaugurated in December 2020.

After a new mortuary came for use, the old mortuary was left unattended and only after a foul smell started emanating the staff went to clean the freezers and recovered the two bodies.

The Rajajinagar police took up the case and tracked the family of Durga but their family was not ready to get back the body while police are still trying to get the address of Muniraju's kin.
