Bengaluru Cafe Blast: Central Crime Branch To Take Over Probe, CM Says Culprits To Be Nabbed Soon — Top Points

The Siddaramaiah-led Congress government expressed confidence that those behind the explosion will be nabbed at the earliest based on CCTV images.

Rameshwaram Cafe Blast: The police on Saturday intensified their investigation into the bomb blast at Bengaluru's popular eatery, the Rameshwaram Cafe, that took place on Friday, leaving 10 injured. The Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in Karnataka expressed confidence that those behind the explosion will be nabbed at the earliest based on CCTV images. The state government, however, also said that it was not possible to specify at the moment if any outfit was involved in the incident.

On Saturday, Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda said that the investigation into the cafe blast has been handed over to the Central Crime Branch and that no arrest has been made so far in connection with the incident.

In a post on 'X', he said, "Investigation of the case has been handed over to the Central Crime Branch (CCB). All the injured are recovering. No arrest (have been) made." Earlier in the day, police sources said that four persons have been detained for questioning in connection with yesterday's low-intensity bomb blast at a Bengaluru eatery. They were picked up from Dharwad, Hubballi and Bengaluru.

Here Are Top Points:

  • Four people have been detained for questioning in connection with the bomb blast. They were picked up from Dharwad, Hubballi, and Bengaluru, according to the news agency PTI, citing police sources.
  • Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah convened a meeting of the Home Department to take stock of the situation. During the meeting, he instructed senior police officers to leverage technology effectively in the probe and ensure that the "full truth" comes out.
  • Siddaramaiah has instructed the officials to speed up the investigation in the case and to ensure that such incidents do not recur. He has asked officials to take action against anti-social elements without any sympathy, as reported by PTI.
  • Speaking to the reporters in Mysuru, the Karnataka CM said, "One person wearing a mask and cap had come by bus, bought Rava Idly from the counter at the cafe, and sat down at a place. Then he had set the timer and gone." He further stated, "All the injured persons were safe."
  • The CM visited the Rameshwaram Cafe, inspected the spot, and also met the injured, who are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
  • Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said on Saturday that there seems to be a link between the cafe blast and the cooker explosion that took place in the coastal city of Mangaluru in 2022, and the police are looking at all the angles. In the cooker blast incident that took place in Mangaluru, an improvised explosive device (IED) kept inside a pressure cooker accidentally went off when it was being taken in an auto rickshaw in November 2022. The probe revealed that the IED was meant to be planted at the Kadri Manjunatha temple.
  • Home Minister G Parameshwara said investigators have gathered certain information from CCTV footage, and footage from the city's public transport buses is also being analysed as part of the investigation to nab the culprit.
  • Sleuths from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the National Security Guard (NSG) reached the spot to help the local police and shared some inputs with them.
