Karnataka: Judge Recalls A Case When He Had To Grant Divorce As Woman Only Cooked Maggi

Divorce cases are increasing drastically over the years, sessions judge Raghunath says.

Hyderabad: Have you ever considered eating Maggi for dinner because you were too exhausted to prepare something else? Something similar happened to a Karnataka couple that resulted in a life-altering choice for the pair, as a man divorced his wife after alleging that she only served Maggi to him for all meals, recalled principal district and sessions court judge ML Raghunath

The judge said that couples are filing for divorce over petty issues. He recalled the divorce case he dealt with in Ballari, Karnataka.

“It was noodles for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The husband complained that his wife went to the provision store and brought only instant noodles,” said the sessions judge.

“Divorce cases are increasing drastically over the years,” Raghunath says. “Couples have to stay together for at least a year before seeking a divorce. If there were no such law, divorce petitions would be filed directly from wedding halls,” Raghunath said, as quoted by Times Now.

He indicated that divorce petitions based on minor disagreements are not uncommon in the courts. Some couples sue for divorce the day after their wedding for bizarre things like putting salt on the wrong side of the plate or not getting the wedding suit colour perfect.
