Karnataka Congress Files Police Complaint Against BJP Over 'Derogatory' Social Media Posts

Even before the probe was completed, Karnataka Congress general secretary Surya Mukundaraj said, the BJP started to spread lies through social media to create confusion among people.

The ruling Congress filed a police complaint on Friday against the BJP's Karnataka social media handle for making "derogatory posts" against the state's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar. The Congress state general secretary Surya Mukundaraj said the BJP social media handle made it appear like the Income Tax Department seized huge amounts of cash to the tune of Rs 94 crore and valuables worth Rs 8 crore in the raids in Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Delhi from Congress.

He also claimed that the BJP had morphed and distorted the images of the Chief Minister and his Deputy in order to confuse the public.

Mukundaraj further said that numerous BJP leaders shared demeaning posts from the BJP's Karnataka branch on the microblogging platform 'X'.

In his complaint, the Congress leader said,  "The I-T department nowhere said in its press release that the cash seized by it belonged to ministers or any specific person."

"Even before the probe was completed, the BJP started spreading lies through social media to create confusion among people," he said.

Earlier, BJP released ‘ATM Sarkara Collection Tree’ poster accusing the government of using Karnataka as the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) to fund Parliamentary and upcoming assembly polls.

Hitting out at BJP for making the poster, Siddaramaiah said, "They (BJP) were defeated on the grounds that they are corrupt people. So, what moral right do they have to make allegations against Congress."

DK Shivakumar also said that the BJP was frustrated since all the leaders joined Congress. He said that the workers of BJP and JD(S) were frustrated due to the alliance between the two parties.
